A Turn Towards Nonfiction

I picked up two nonfiction titles over the weekend: EAT, PRAY, LOVE by Elizabeth Gilbert and THE GREEN BOOK by Elizabeth Rogers and Thomas M. Kostigen. Nonfiction isn’t normally my favorite genre, actually, it usually ranks towards the bottom. I’m a girl who loves to live in fantasy. However, recently I’ve become a bit more health conscious, and I’ve also been reading a lot about being “green” and the environment, especially as those types of topics relate to politics.

I originally avoided EAT, PRAY, LOVE like the plague, casting it off as yet another “book-club” book. However, a good friend of mine at work recently read it (yes, for a book club) and had a lot of good things to say about it, so I thought I should give it a try. I’ve always admired the cover, and the title gives it that little something that makes me think I’ll like it. (So we’ll see, and I’ll be sure to let you all know how it is.)

As for THE GREEN BOOK, well, quite literally, it’s a green book. That is what drew me to it at first. After picking it up, and being unable to put it back down (I kept flipping through it whilst browsing the aisles at Target with a friend) I knew that I should buy it, and that it would also be a great read to share with a friend. So far, I love it, a lot. It has great, EASY suggestions for lessening your impact on the planet. And when I say easy, I mean easy. And it not only tells you these suggestions, but gives you hard examples, and explanations, as to how it will help our earth live a little bit longer. And the authors write in a way that makes the book enjoyable, and not too dry. It’s very conversational, and includes many testimonials from celebrities.

So as the sands in the hourglass turn, and I read some nonfiction, I invite everyone to give it a try. I am, and so far, I am not disappointed!
