A Turn Towards Nonfiction

I picked up two nonfiction titles over the weekend: EAT, PRAY, LOVE by Elizabeth Gilbert and THE GREEN BOOK by Elizabeth Rogers and Thomas M. Kostigen. Nonfiction isn’t normally my favorite genre, actually, it usually ranks towards the bottom. I’m a girl who loves to live in fantasy. However, recently I’ve become a bit more health conscious, and I’ve also been reading a lot about being “green” and the environment, especially as those types of topics relate to politics.

I originally avoided EAT, PRAY, LOVE like the plague, casting it off as yet another “book-club” book. However, a good friend of mine at work recently read it (yes, for a book club) and had a lot of good things to say about it, so I thought I should give it a try. I’ve always admired the cover, and the title gives it that little something that makes me think I’ll like it. (So we’ll see, and I’ll be sure to let you all know how it is.)

As for THE GREEN BOOK, well, quite literally, it’s a green book. That is what drew me to it at first. After picking it up, and being unable to put it back down (I kept flipping through it whilst browsing the aisles at Target with a friend) I knew that I should buy it, and that it would also be a great read to share with a friend. So far, I love it, a lot. It has great, EASY suggestions for lessening your impact on the planet. And when I say easy, I mean easy. And it not only tells you these suggestions, but gives you hard examples, and explanations, as to how it will help our earth live a little bit longer. And the authors write in a way that makes the book enjoyable, and not too dry. It’s very conversational, and includes many testimonials from celebrities.

So as the sands in the hourglass turn, and I read some nonfiction, I invite everyone to give it a try. I am, and so far, I am not disappointed!

Hannah Montana

Still can’t quite figure out how to get the photos/videos off my phone, so I thought I’d share about what I did this Friday evening. I went to see the Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus 3D concert/movie at our local theater (where I used to work), along with my younger sister and a friend.

My friend and sister were excited–as for myself, well, let’s say I was somewhat on the lesser end, but I was glad to have something different to do. It was a great show; a nice mix of “behind the scenes” cuts and info, and a lot of great concert footage. The stage/lighting/pyrotechnics for the show were… absolutely incredible. I can’t even imagine how much it must have cost to run it for one night, let alone a whole tour.

The highlight of my evening was the kids in the theater. Absolutely adorable: singing along, clapping, screaming, shouting (especially when the Jonas brothers came out), amongst many other things. They loved it, and that made me love it!

I recommend it for all ages–the 3d was a nice, added touch, and it really almost made you feel like you were at the concert (for a considerably lesser price)! Also great for those looking to work in any industry involving the 8-12 age group–this is what they’re into these days!

Meg Cabot News

Meg Cabot just posted in her diary that the Heather Wells novels have been optioned for a TV series by ABC family! Best news I’ve had this week! Here’s hoping that this becomes a reality–I absolutely adore those books, and ALL of Meg Cabot’s work!

Anne

I keep reading on the Internet about the new Anne of Green Gables miniseries, and think to myself, Oh, won’t that be nice! Then I think, Wait. Green Gables. WAIT! I never read that book!

Yes, dear readers, I have never read ANNE OF GREEN GABLES, or any of Ms. Montgomery’s novels. How is this possible? How did I miss this crucial piece of fiction? I do not know! But, oddly enough, we have a copy in the house, and I plan on rectifying that immediately, and then most likely requesting all the sequels from BookMooch!
